1st Choice's history

The 1st Choice line of cat and dog food products was launched in 1990 by PLB International. Founded in 1969, this Quebec family-owned business was originally dedicated to the production of farm animal feeds. In 1982, it became the first company in Quebec to manufacture food for small pets. In order to develop the best possible food products, the firm solicited the input of animal nutrition experts. 1st Choice quickly became the first premium cats and dogs food in North America to use fresh chicken in its recipes.

Building on its commercial success and confident about the product’s quality, 1st Choice began in 1994 to take its place on the international market. Japan became the first partner and shortly after, the company made its way into the European market. The growing demand for its products prompted an expansion as early as 1995. Millions of dollars were invested to expand the plant and buy advanced production equipment. Thanks to these new ultra-accurate and efficient systems, the company obtained improved quality control for all its products. In 2003, it became the first Canadian plant to receive the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s certification, and received local and international excellence awards.

PLB international always aims to achieve the highest standards of quality. 1st Choice products are now distributed in more than 35 countries around the world. The Company’s goal is to become the obvious selection of animal owners who care about the health of their pets.
